This page explains the cookies The Benson Bulletin uses, and lets you choose whether to allow the optional ones. Cookies are small files a website saves on your phone, tablet or computer.
Essential cookies
These make the website work and remember your choices, so they don’t need your permission. Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser.
| Name | What it’s for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
benson_consent | Remembers whether you accept analytics cookies, so we don’t ask on every page. | 1 year, then we ask again |
benson_stats | Remembers that you asked not to be counted in the anonymous statistics. Only set if you switch them off. | 1 year |
wordpress_logged_in_…, wordpress_sec_…, wordpress_test_cookie | Keep our editors logged in. Only set if you log in. | When you close your browser (a session cookie), or after 14 days if you tick “Remember Me” |
wp-settings-… | Remember how an editor has set out the dashboard. Only set if you log in. | 1 year |
comment_author_… | Fill in your name and email next time you comment. Only set if you tick “Save my name, email, and website in this browser” when commenting. | Just under a year |
Anonymous statistics (no cookies)
So we know what readers find useful, the website counts, without cookies and without knowing who you are:
- which pages are read, and for how long;
- the website a reader came from, by its name only;
- whether a phone, tablet or computer was used;
- how often each issue’s flipbook is opened and its recording played, and for how long.
To count visitors once a day, your internet address and browser are scrambled with a key that changes every day and is deleted the next; neither your address nor the scrambled form is kept after that day. Only daily totals are kept, for 25 months. They aren’t shared with anyone. Editors who are logged in aren’t counted.
We count readers who haven’t answered the cookie question too. You can switch this off below.
Analytics cookies (optional)
With your permission, we also use analytics cookies to see how readers come back and find their way around the website, so we can improve it. They don’t tell us who you are.
If you reject them, or don’t choose, they aren’t set, and any set before are deleted.

Stored in your browser by the audio player
These aren’t cookies: the player keeps them in your browser’s own storage, so you can carry on where you left off. Nothing here is sent to us.
